K-State
In the United States of America, there are 33 states that start with the letter “K.” However, there are six states that do not contain a letter at the beginning of their name. The six states are: Alaska, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon and Washington. There are also three territories that fall under this category: Guam, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands.
The other 29 states all contain at least one letter in their name. Alabama is the only state that does not start with a letter. All of the other states except for Kentucky and Maine begin with a letter. Kentucky is the only state in this group that does not have an initial vowel. After Kentucky comes Delaware, which has an initial “E” but no “A” because it was originally part of Virginia. Maryland has two letters- an “M” and a “W”- in its name because they were both part of George Washington’s estate when he was president.
