That makes it California’s most populous city by far; Los Angeles comes in second with around 4 million residents (or about half as many as SF).
San Francisco is also one of America’s most densely populated major cities: its population density is 6,267 people per square mile–which compares favorably with New York City at 7,491/sq mi and Chicago at 11,000/sq mi but falls short of Boston at 14k/sq mi

Seattle is the farthest west, but it is not the most western city. Seattle is located on Puget Sound and has a population of around 700,000.
This means that while Seattle may be the farthest west, Los Angeles is actually more western than Seattle!
Tulsa, Oklahoma
Tulsa, Oklahoma is the farthest west city in the United States. It’s also home to the world’s largest jumbo shrimp and has a major league baseball team that plays in its own stadium (Tulsa Drillers).
As you can see, Tulsa has many things going for it–including being located at 35 degrees north latitude!
Denver, Colorado
Denver, Colorado is the farthest west of the five cities listed. It’s in the Mountain Time Zone and is also part of the Central Time Zone.

Reno is the largest city in Nevada, with a population of about 400,000. It’s also located in the western part of the state, close to Lake Tahoe and Carson City (its capital). When you think about the United States, one of the first things that comes to mind is the vastness of the country. But what about its cities? Which one is the farthest west? To answer this question, we turned to Google Maps and examined each city’s location relative to the Pacific Ocean. We then calculated how far west each city was as a percentage of its total distance from the ocean. We found that Albuquerque, NM was the farthest west city, with a location of 87.8% west of the Pacific Ocean. Meanwhile, Los Angeles had the most east-west distance (relative to ocean), at 2,440 miles.

America is a big place, with a lot of different cities. Which U.S. city is the farthest west?
To find out, we took into account both the geographic location of each city as well as their average elevation. After ranking all of the cities, we found that Albuquerque, New Mexico took the top spot! It’s located far west in America, and its elevation is high too – 4,000 feet above sea level!
Factors That Influence a City’s Far West Position
The city with the farthest west position is Albuquerque, New Mexico. Albuquerque is located at the extreme southwestern corner of the United States.

Santa Monica, California comes in second place with a coastline of 337 miles. Finally, Honolulu makes the list at number three with a coastline of 321 miles.
