    IIT, or the Indian Institutes of Technology, is a group of 23 autonomous engineering and technology institutes located across India.     There are a total of 21 IITs in India, each with a different intake capacity. The Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) are autonomous public engineering and management institutes of higher education located in India. They are governed by the Institutes of Technology Act, 1961 which has declared them as “institutions of national importance” and lays down their powers, duties, and framework for governance.

    The IITs have a common admission process for undergraduate admissions, which is known as the Joint Entrance Examination for IITs (JEE). Candidates who clear the JEE can apply to any of the IITs based on their rank in the examination. The total number of seats available in all the IITs put together is around 10,500.
