Gavaskar was born on 10 December 1949 in Mumbai, Maharashtra. He played for India from 1971 to 1987 and scored 10,122 runs in Tests and 8,847 runs in ODIs. He also holds several records including most number of centuries (34) and highest individual score (281) by an Indian batsman in Test cricket history.
