IN WHICH YEAR DID INDIA HOST THE WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY

World Environment Day is celebrated every year on June 5. It is a day to create awareness about the importance of protecting our environment. India has been hosting this day since 1972.

    72

The year 1972 was when India hosted World Environment Day. This event is one of the most important international days for environmental protection and sustainable development. It is celebrated every year on 5th June to encourage worldwide awareness and action for the preservation of our environment. The theme for 1972 was “Only One Earth”.

    1974

World Environment Day was held in India in 1974. It was the first time that the event was organized in a developing country. The main aim of the event was to raise awareness about the importance of protecting the environment. More than 100 countries participated in the event and it was attended by over 10,000 people.

    1976

June 5th marks the World Environment Day, a day to reflect on the state of our environment and to pledge to do better. This year, India is hosting the World Environment Day.

This comes at a time when India is working hard to meet its commitments under the Paris Agreement and has made significant progress in reducing its carbon footprint. India has also been at the forefront of the International Solar Alliance, an initiative to promote solar energy.

The theme for this year’s World Environment Day is “Beat Plastic Pollution”. Plastics have become a ubiquitous part of our lives but they are also one of the biggest polluters. It is estimated that around 8 million metric tons of plastic end up in our oceans every year, harming marine life and threatening our food security.

On this World Environment Day, let us pledge to do our bit to reduce plastic pollution. We can start by refusing single-use plastics, recycling what we can, and supporting businesses that are working towards sustainable packaging solutions.

    1978

1978 was the year that India hosted the World Environment Day. This event is held annually on June 5th in order to promote awareness and action for the protection of our environment. The Indian government put together a large-scale celebration in Delhi, which included a week-long series of events and activities. Over one hundred countries were represented at this event, making it a truly global effort.

    1980

In 1980, India hosted the World Environment Day. The theme for that year was “Small is Beautiful”. The event was organized by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the Government of India. It was held in New Delhi from 1-15 November 1980.
