Now that the Instagram algorithm is in effect, it’s more important than ever to keep track of which accounts are following you. If you’re using the app correctly, then your feed should be filled with photos from people who actually interest you and not just random users who want their content seen by as many people as possible (e.g., brands). The problem is that if you’re following hundreds or even thousands of people on Instagram, it can be difficult to keep track of whom exactly has decided to follow your profile.

Luckily for us all, there’s a simple way around this problem: hiding certain followers without unfollowing them! This method might seem complicated at first glance but once you get the hang of it, it’ll become second nature in no time at all. So let’s dive right in…

Go to your profile page on Instagram.

• Tap the three vertical dots in the upper-right corner of your screen, then tap “Settings” (or if you’re using an Android device, tap the person icon in the top right-hand corner).
• Scroll down and tap “Followers” under Account Settings.

The three vertical dots are the settings icon and can be found on both iOS and Android devices. The profile icon is also known as a profile picture or avatar and it looks like a small image of yourself at about chest height when viewing Instagram on a mobile device.

Scroll to the bottom of the page, and tap “View Following List.”

• If you’re using an Android device, tap the person icon in the top right corner of your screen.
• Tap “Settings.” This will open up a drop-down menu with different options that include “Account,” “Profile” and more.
• Scroll down until you see an option labeled as “Following” or something similar (it may vary based on what type of account you have). Click on this option to open up another window showing who follows you and how many followers each person has in total.

Tap “Hide from Following List” if you want to hide someone from your following list without unfollowing them. The person remains on your followers list, but you’ll no longer be able to see them on their profile. To hide someone this way, select “Hide from Following List.”

If you want to hide someone from your following list without unfollowing them, tap “Hide from Following List.” This person will still be able to see your posts, but they won’t appear in your feed and won’t be able to see when you post.

To unhide someone this way, select “Show on Profile Page” at the top of their profile page (next to Followers).

If you don’t want to hide someone from following list but just want to make sure they’re not showing up in your feed, tap “Block User.” The blocked user will no longer show up as a suggested follower for other people who follow you. You can still see their photos by tapping into their page or tag.

And that’s it! You can also choose to unblock someone if you change your mind. Remember, though: once you’ve hidden someone from following list, they won’t show up in your feed anymore unless they tag or mention you. If you want them there again (and who doesn’t?), just follow them back again as usual.
